It’s not just a good hotel workout that keeps you healthy, relaxed, well and sane on the road. It’s what you eat, what you pack and what you wear. I’m not going to be giving style advice on the pages of this blog any time soon but I will tell you when I find stuff that works for travel. And the threshold is that it works really well for travel before I take some ‘call me a fashion blogger’ pics and post about it. The Cole Haan 2.Zerogrand line meets that threshold and then some. It’s not a sneaker and it’s not an oxford but it is the perfect blend of style and comfort. It feels like a sneaker and looks like an oxford. I have a pair in black and ‘Ironstone Nubuck- Ivory’ (pictured) which goes with just about everything in my closet. Neutrals unite!
Work – There are days when I fly the night before a meeting and fly out the day after a block of meetings. (Also read, I go to super random places where I can’t get back to NYC on a reasonable flight after work so I have to wait until the next day to start my travel). I digress. I still like to look and feel put together on the days where I fly and don’t need to be in a suit that day. You never know when you’ll see colleagues or meet someone that you could add to your network. For that reason, I refrain from the leggings, sneakers, etc. look. The laser perforation on the top, the soft look of the suede, the neutral colors – so chic.
Then there is the dark side of travel, the “You can get to this flight ma’am but it is on the other side of the airport ma’am and all the flights are slowly booking up because of cancellations ma’am’. Did I mention the flight closes in 10 minutes ma’am?” In those situations even the cutest and most comfortable of booties or flats won’t work. My Cole Haan 2.Zerogrand shoes come through with their (taken from the CH website):
- Dynamic energy foam is designed to comfort and propel each part of the foot, and rivals top-of-the-line running shoes.
- Zonal tongue and Achilles padding generates ready-to-wear comfort from day one.
- Anatomically contoured energy foam footbed cushions as it supports weight distribution and moisture control.
- Full rubber outsole provides mobility, durability, and reliable grip for any terrain.
LGA here I come! I’m making that flight.
Leisure – I’m usually a little less strict on the airport attire when I’m traveling for ‘play’ but the reason why I bring these guys is because they are a foamy, walking-on-clouds, sneakers-at-heart which make sightseeing a breeze. Similar to my work travels I don’t want to sacrifice comfort for style though. The Cole Haan 2.Zerogrand shoes allow me to stay on my feet from 8a to 8p exploring and sightseeing while not feeling frumpy in bulky sneakers. It also integrates Cole Haan’s Grand.Os of lightweight, flexible and responsive cushioning technology.
Responsive cushioning – how nice does that sound?
Odd feet – That’s right the joys of odd feet. I have a pretty wide foot, with high arches and some residual chronic pain from a foot injury in middle school. Scroll down for a tip on how to prevent said injury! Anyway, the oxford-meets-sneaker comes in a wide foot for my Shrek feet, supports my high arches and is just a dream for a gal who can’t walk around for too long without feeling some dull pain.
The Cole Haan 2.Zerogrand line is expanding to different fabrics/styles and they JUST came out with a blend of their Stitchlite and Zerogrand technology – airy and lightweight for the summer months. I haven’t tried a pair out but the gunmetal, cedarwood/coral, peach blush and rye knit (oh the rye knit!) look gorgeous.
Happy travels and I hope I helped your feet and your travel wardrobe out a bit.
foot injury – took a high heel to the middle of my foot while it was still growing. Don’t take your shoes off in the midst of a dance party with high heels stomping and dancing all over the place.
